hmmm...

this is my favourit sonnet by Shakespear!

[face=Franklin Gothic Medium]

Sonnet XL

Take all my loves, my love, yea, take them all;
What hast thou then more than thou hadst before?
No love, my love, that thou mayst true love call;
All mine was thine before thou hadst this more.
Then if for my love thou my love receivest,
I cannot blame thee for my love thou usest;
But yet be blamed, if thou thyself deceivest
By wilful taste of what thyself refusest.
I do forgive thy robbery, gentle thief,
Although thou steal thee all my poverty;
And yet, love knows, it is a greater grief
To bear love's wrong than hate's known injury.

Lascivious grace, in whom all ill well shows,
Kill me with spites; yet we must not be foes.[/face]

yes, it's....but I think - all these works are most beautiful in original entry

from a child I know the poem "lorelei" - I like it at czech, but at german love it...

warning: my english is just as alternative, free and anarchistic as my german!!! 8)

well, first i read it in russian...and just then found out in english.
but i am agree that in original it is more...i don't know how to say...
english is mother-tongue of Shakespear...so this sonnet in all another languages are already not HIS sonnet...but sonnets which was written under the influence of Shakspear))

:D

at school i had a professor of the german language and he gave us understanding of the german lyric. at first i hated it, but than i learned to love it. his favotites were the german "edda" and "die niebelungen" and he had a good disposition to make us interested of the lyric.
i think the old german lyric and the "altdeutsche schrift" is acultural heritage, but today it will be buried in oblivion and that´s very sad.

if you don´t know "altdeutsche schrift" look at this site
